Wellynextdoor Introduction

Write your story

The peg up boards and postcards travel around community centres, libraries, galas and other community events with the aim to collect fun, heart-warming stories about neighbours in Wellington.

#wellynextdoor has collected hundreds of stories by the postcards alone.

Record Your Story

The travelling #wellynextdoor caravan is a mobile recording booth, collecting stories from a range of Wellingtonians on subjects from community projects, war stories, neighbour stories to interviews between loved ones and friends. The caravan is way to formally record oral history about Wellingtonians to keep for future generations.

watch your story

The best stories collected from the postcards, social media and the recording caravan are turned into animated videos. These video’s were used as youtube and social media adverts to encourage neighbourliness. They were also supported by NEC to play at Wellington International Airport on the ultra wide screen.

exhibition

The interactive #wellynextdoor exhibition was held at Wellington Museum in 2017, celebrating the campaign and encouraging people to contribute further to the stories of Wellington. A part of this exhibition was the ‘Build Your City’ project where I held workshops with the community to help build a paper version of Wellington, encouraging them to draw themselves, their family, their favourite place, home or shop and adding it to the paper town. The end result had over 100 contributors and travelled around various Wellington facilities, having a life it’s own after the exhibition ended.

SEED PACKETS

The seed packets were a joint initiative between the growing neighbours scheme and Bee Aware month. The seeds are bee friendly, encouraging locals to plant their own garden to support Bee’s and sustainable food systems. The design also offers an opportunity to gift the seeds to your neighbour. Wellingtonion’s have used them to introduce themselves or offer assistance in case of an emergency.
